Every light in our stores. Every fridge in our distribution centres. All of it is now powered by 100% renewable electricity. As one of Australia's largest electricity users, we know our choices have real impact - for communities, for the environment, for the future of the places we all share.

Three-quarters of this electricity comes from new infrastructure we helped bring to life, including wind farms, solar installations and battery projects that have added real capacity to the grid. This is a key milestone in our drive to reach net zero emissions across our operations and supply chain by 2050, and a significant step in delivering our SBTi validated net zero goal - achieved well ahead of the global RE100 renewable electricity target for 2030.

"As one of Australia's largest electricity users, we have both the responsibility and the opportunity to drive real change in the national energy transition. Reaching 100% renewable electricity across Australia and New Zealand is not a symbolic gesture, it's the kind of decisive action our scale demands.

" Rob McCartney, Managing Director, Woolworths 360

We backed new projects, not existing supply

This didn't happen by flicking a switch. When we made our commitment in 2020, we looked beyond existing supply and helped bring new projects to life. Long-term agreements, underpinned by our scale, gave developers the assurance they needed to invest in new infrastructure in Australia.

We were the first NSW retail customer for UK energy company CWP Renewables, giving them the confidence to establish operations in Australia. In South Australia, our contract supported Spanish energy provider Iberdrola Group's investment in a new wind, solar and battery operation. The Bango Wind Farm power purchase agreement alone injects around 155,000 megawatt hours annually into NSW, enough to power 27,000 homes.

When retailers at our scale make long-term commitments, major infrastructure gets built. That's how you drive real change in the national energy transition.

Generating power across our own network

Alongside our energy partnerships, we've built one of the largest commercial rooftop solar networks in Australian retail, with over 320 installations across our supermarkets, BIG W stores and distribution centres. Spanning our 14 distribution centres, we host some of the largest rooftop solar installations in the country, enough to power nearly 4,000 homes. This on-site generation reduces grid demand during peak hours and puts less pressure on the network that communities rely on.

Five years. Two countries. One clear plan.

We made our commitment in 2020 and delivered it by the end of 2025 - state by state across Australia and into New Zealand. Every supermarket, BIG W store, distribution centre and facility now runs on renewable electricity, which is projected to deliver a reduction of over 74% in operational emissions, moving us closer towards our target of 80% by 2030.

This milestone was driven by teams across the Group, including Woolworths 360, whose focus on designing, developing and innovating has helped build a more sustainable business.

Renewable electricity is a milestone, not a finish line. We're transitioning to low-emissions CO₂ refrigeration systems, now in 127 stores and have 75 electric home delivery trucks on the road, as we continue our work to reduce our emissions.

Our scale demands real infrastructure, real investment and real impact. That's exactly what we set out to deliver.
