Friday, 15 September 2017: For the second year in a row, SRT Logistics has been awarded Large Transport Partner at Woolworths’ 2017 Carrier of the Year Awards while Smith Haulage was awarded Small Transport Partner.

The winners were announced at the company’s fifth annual Transport Safety Seminar attended by more than 80 Woolworths’ transport partners. SRT Logistics is a family-owned transport company based in Brighton, Tasmania. For the past 25 years, the company has expanded from a refrigerated transport company to a complete supply chain service provider. Its Women Behind the Wheel initiative, which encourages more women to enter the transport industry, has led to the company employing more women as semi and B-double truck drivers than any other transport provider in Tasmania.

Smith Haulage, based in Tumby Bay SA, has been providing transport for more than 50 years. The company services only one of our supermarkets seven days a week in Port Lincoln. Despite the store being located almost 700km from our Adelaide Distribution Centre, Smith Haulage has contributed to the store having one of the best Woolworths customer satisfaction scores in the nation for fresh produce.

With more than 6,000 heavy vehicle movements required each day to supply Woolworths Group’s network of supermarkets, Metro stores, BIG W and liquor outlets, Woolworths relies on its carrier partners to ensure safe and efficient transport on Australian roads.

Woolworths Head of International and Domestic Transport, Chris Brooks, said Woolworths was committed to continually improve safety in the transport industry. “We work closely with our transport providers on the importance of road safety so everyone can return home safely to their families every day,” Chris said.

“With the day also coinciding with R U OK? Day, we also spoke about the importance of mental wellbeing in the transport industry, looking out for each other and not being afraid to seek help.”

At this year’s event, our transport partners heard from speakers including Paul Graham - Woolworths Chief Supply Chain Officer; Chief Inspector Phillip Brooks - NSW Police Force; Sal Petroccitto - CEO National Heavy Vehicle Regulator; Gary Sykes - Head of Innovation, Woolworths Group Supply Chain and Tim Keays - General Manager South West Express.

The Carrier of the Year awards recognise carriers that have delivered outstanding performance in safety, compliance and service.

Previous recipients of the award have included Goldstar Transport and SRT Logistics (2016), Aurizon and Carey’s Freightlines (2015) and Jim Pearson Transport and Bonaccord Freightlines (2014).
