Friday, 21 October 2016: Woolworths Group (Woolworths) today announced Goldstar Transport and SRT Logistics as the recipients of its 2016 Carrier of the Year awards at the company’s fourth annual Transport Safety Seminar.

The Carrier of the Year awards recognise carriers that have delivered outstanding performance in safety, compliance and service. Previous recipients of the award have included Jim Pearson Transport and Bonaccord Freightlines (2014), and Aurizon and Carey’s Freightlines (2015).

Goldstar Transport is a Western Australia-based family-owned business operating in the Kewdale Welshpool area, the hub of WA transport operations. Goldstar provide inbound transport services in the local market to support Woolworths’ Perth Regional Distribution Centre operations.

SRT Logistics is a family-owned Tasmanian transport company that has operated in Tasmania for the last 25 years. In that time, the company has expanded from a refrigerated transport company delivering meat to the Tasmanian community and retail outlets, to a complete supply chain service provider.

With more than 6,000 heavy vehicle movements required each day to supply Woolworths Group’s network of supermarkets, Metro stores and liquor outlets, Woolworths relies on its carrier partners to ensure safe and efficient transport on Australian roads.

Woolworths Head of Transport, Chris Brooks, said the awards promote a culture committed to continually improving safety in the road transport industry.

“Road safety is all of our responsibility and we’re committed to working closely with our carriers and regulators to make our roads as safe as possible,” he said. “On behalf of Woolworths, I would like to congratulate both SRT Logistics and Goldstar Transport on winning the 2016 Woolworths Group Carrier of the Year awards.”

Woolworths’ annual Transport Safety Seminar was attended by more than 50 of Woolworths’ transport partners.

At this year’s event, carriers heard from speakers including Woolworths CEO, Brad Banducci; Woolworths Chief Supply Chain Officer, Paul Graham; NSW Roads and Maritime Services Network General Manager, Mike Cush; National Heavy Vehicle Regulator Executive Director Productivity and Safety, Geoff Casey; and the National Rail Manager at Toll NQX, Jeff Higgins.
