Sharing with care

We care deeply about your privacy here at Woolworths Group. And when you trust us with your personal information, we’re committed to using it responsibly.

That’s why we’re so selective about who we share it with.

Sharing within Woolworths Group

We share your personal information between Woolworths Group brands, including Everyday Rewards, BIG W and Everyday Insurance.

Sharing this information helps us understand how you interact with our products and services. This means we can give you a more personal and tailored offer and product experience.

We also share information with other Woolworths Group companies. For example, we share aggregated information like customers’ shopping history with our media business Cartology. They use these insights to show you ads from Woolworths and other third parties in our stores, on our digital channels and on other sites like YouTube.

We share information about products and sales with our expert analytics business Quantium, for example to produce insights about the performance of our suppliers’ products and promotions amongst different customer segments. Although segment-level insights are shared with our suppliers, your information (de-identified or otherwise) is never shared with them.

Check out Privacy at Everyday Rewards for more information on how Everyday Rewards manages your privacy.

Sharing your information when you shop online

When you shop online with us, there are various stages where your personal information may be shared so we can successfully deliver your order or enable pick up.

Picking your order

Your name, address and any additional notes you leave will be shared with the store responsible for picking your order.

This information is shared on a secure platform that requires login by team members at the store, and is generally kept temporarily - so we can efficiently resolve order issues that may arise.

Delivering your order

We may share your name and address with a third party delivery company to get your order from our store to your home.

We take steps to ensure the third party delivery company only uses your information for this purpose.

Discussing your order

We may provide your order information to team members in our Contact Centre.

This personal information is used to help our team members verify your identity before they speak to you, to share relevant service messages with you, or to manage any enquiries or complaints.

Correcting your order

If there’s an issue with your order that needs to be resolved, your personal information may be shared between stores, our Contact Centre and third party delivery companies.

Authorised individuals will be able to see your previous orders including items and quantities, to assist you with such issues, including for providing refunds for missing or damaged items.

Sharing your information with third parties

There are limited circumstances where we may share your personal information with third parties - including our Everyday Rewards Partners, suppliers and service providers, some of which are located outside Australia.

When we do, our approach is to share as little of your personal information as possible.

Here are some of the ways we share your personal information:

  • Our Everyday Rewards Partners, such as Qantas, so they can allocate Qantas points to you (when you choose to convert Everyday Rewards points to your Qantas membership)
  • Print partners for direct mail and card fulfilment (when you join our Everyday Rewards program and order an Everyday Rewards card from us)
  • Those helping us to improve data quality, such as Australia Post (when you provide your address to us)
  • Financial services organisations or specialised service providers for fraud detection (when we process your payments)
  • Delivery companies to help deliver your order
  • Expert data partners to provide us with insights when you shop with us or when you join our Everyday Rewards loyalty program
  • Publishers that display advertising to you, e.g. social media and entertainment sites

Sharing information that can identify you

There are specific circumstances when we may share your personal information in a form that can clearly identify you, for example when:

  • It’s required for fraud detection or security protection
  • Working with the police or other retailers to assist with investigations including safety and retail crime
  • We need assistance from our service providers to deliver your orders or send you advertising and other day-to-day business operations
  • You make a written request to share your information with a third party
  • We may share footage with the providers of our in-store technology, for example Scan Assist. This helps improve the technology's recognition of certain products and actions to ensure a better checkout experience. For more information about how we handle your personal information when you visit our stores, please see In-Store Technology and your Privacy
