Wednesday, 14th December 2016: Red meat and supply chain solutions provider Cargill Teys has been named as the 2016 Overall Supplier of the Year by Woolworths.
Awarded the top prize at Woolworths’ annual Supplier of the Year Awards in Sydney, Cargill Teys whose headquarters are in Queensland, has been an integral supply partner to the supermarket for over 20 years.
Steve Donohue, Woolworths Director of Buying and Merchandising, said; “We had many great contenders for the Overall Supplier of the Year prize, but Cargill Teys stood out for their proactive approach to new product development and diversification in the meat category.
“Amongst a whole range of services, they process over 200,000 head of Woolworths cattle a year in their Beef Processing Facility which employs over 500 people in the New South Wales country town of Tamworth. They’ve also expanded their ranging to supply more products in categories such as Deli.”
The awards recognised suppliers to Woolworths in 22 categories with Cargill Teys also awarded Deli and Meat Supplier of the Year. Other companies on the winner’s list included Coca-Cola Amatil, Unilever, Modelez and Allied Mills Australia, with Maltesers Teasers Ice Cream named New Product of the Year.
Natures Organics were highlighted for its work in sustainability, while in a new category introduced this year alongisde sustainability, Tasmanian based R&R Smith were awarded Organic Supplier of the Year.
Steve Donohue added; “R&R Smith is a clear stand out in the growing organics market. They share common values with Woolworths in their commitment to making organic produce more affordable to the everyday consumer. They also continue to innovate by growing new varieties that our customers are looking for.”
Hydro Produce was named Vegetable Supplier of the Year, Mackays Bananas as Fruit Supplier of the Year and Picasso Foods as Woolworths FoodCo Supplier of the Year.
Individuals were also recognised with John McLennan from Colgate-Palmolive named as Integrated Supply Planner of the Year, Jonathan Gray from Inghams as Account Director of the Year and Adam Mourad, who looks after Woolworths seafood, named Category Manager of the Year.
