Woolworths and The Salvation Army would like to thank all customers who recently donated to the Cyclone Debbie and flood relief S.T.A.N.D. appeal.
Severe weather and Cyclone Debbie had a devastating impact on many communities, especially in Queensland and Northern NSW. Our teams rallied and worked incredibly hard to provide relief and essential items necessary to support the recovery effort.
We also helped to raise much-needed funds through our partnership with The Salvation Army. Our joint S.T.A.N.D. program (Support Through Australian Natural Disasters), helps to provide funds to The Salvos so that they can be on-the-ground support during times of natural disaster. We are delighted to confirm that so far, approximately $200,000 has been raised nationally which is in addition to Woolworths’ contribution to the S.T.A.N.D. program.
Funds raised in our stores helped to support The Salvation Army’s Emergency Services team meet the essential needs of those impacted by the disaster. The Salvation Army teams were able to provide on-the-ground support in Mackay, Bowen, Proserpine, Cannonvale, Casino, Lismore, Tweed Heads, Ballina, Byron Bay and Beenleigh. Woolworths Wish Gift Cards were also made available to those who needed to replace food, clothing, bedding, fuel and other essentials.
While the immediate disaster response has passed, there is still much work to be done and Woolworths has pledged an additional annual contribution of $500,000 over the next five years. Customers can also continue to make a donation to the S.T.A.N.D. program at the checkouts of their local Woolworths store.
